‘Stay with us!’: 911 recordings capture chaos after Karmelo Anthony killed Austin Metcalf

FRISCO, Texas (TNND) — Newly released 911 recordings from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅly stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf captured the frantic efforts of friends, coaches, and first responders who tried to save the teenager after he was attacked during a high school track meet in Texas.

The emergency calls were among hundreds of exhibits made public by a Collin County court on Friday following the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony, who was convicted in Metcalf’s death and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

In one of the calls, a distraught caller tells a dispatcher that a friend had been stabbed and was “bleeding everywhere” as people rushed to help him.

“I’m at David Kuykendall Stadium. My friend just got stabbed,” the caller says frantically.

The caller told dispatch his friend was stabbed in the chest, adding that the suspect was being held at the scene by bystanders.

“People got him,” the caller says.

The caller is also heard talking to people in the background and saying, “it was Austin. Austin was stabbed in the chest.”

Other recordings captured the chaotic moments as coaches and witnesses worked to keep Metcalf alive until emergency crews arrived.

“I need paramedics at David Kuykendall Stadium right away,” the second caller says.

“I have an athlete that was stabbed,” he adds, also telling the dispatcher an Army veteran was at the scene and trying to keep compression on the wound.

The caller tells the dispatcher Metcalf was unconscious and not breathing. He also said there was “a lot of blood” and that witnesses are “doing compressions and giving him mouth-to-mouth.”

Throughout the call, a person is heard pleading with Metcalf to stay alive.

“Stay with us! Stay with me, Austin! Austin, stay with me!” the person says. “Come on! Come on!”

The dispatcher instructs the caller to grab a clean, dry cloth or towel to use to stop the bleeding. PH๏τos from the scene show bloody clothing, including a jacket.

“Fight through, Austin,” the person in the background says. “Come on. You’re doing good.”

The court’s release also included surveillance footage showing the moments before and after the stabbing, as well as police body-camera video from Anthony’s arrest.

In the body-camera footage, Anthony can be heard telling officers that Metcalf had put his hands on him. He also says, “I’m not alleged. I did it,” when an officer describes him as the alleged suspect.

Another video shows Anthony running away from the crime scene.

The recordings provide some of the clearest accounts yet of the immediate aftermath of the April 2025 confrontation at a Frisco track meet.

Metcalf, a student-athlete at Frisco Memorial High School, died at the scene despite efforts by coaches and first responders. The case drew national attention and sparked intense debate online throughout the investigation and trial.

Prosecutors said Anthony fatally stabbed Metcalf during the dispute. Anthony argued he acted in self-defense, but jurors rejected that claim.
