The mother of Nolan Wells â the 18-year-old who vanished during a Fourth of July outing to Mississippiâs Horn Island and was later discovered á´ á´á´á´ â is shedding more light on whatâs going on behind the scenes.
In a video interview with The Grio shared Monday, July 13, Wellsâ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley, were asked about a young woman their son supposedly spoke with at a party before he disappeared.
âShe has been identified,â Christine said. âI donât know if anyone has spoken to her. Again, we just have not heard muchâŚfrom our local authorities.â
âIâve never seen her in my life,â Christine continued, explaining that the young woman âdid reach out to me initially, just saying basically like it was a âhey and byeâ type situationâ with her son.
However, Christine said, âThatâs not what Iâm getting from other people.â
When it comes to what actually took place before Wellsâ death, Christine said there are âa lot of inconsistencies,â adding: âWe just want transparency and a very thorough investigation, just like they would do for anyone else.â
One of Wellsâ friends, Tracestin Shepherd, spoke with Good Morning America, claiming that Wells wanted to stay behind at a party because he met a girl, and it seemed like âhe really did like her.â
As Globe previously reported, after Wells disappeared, his body was found in the water near the island two days later following an extensive search.
While investigators have said drowning is suspected, they havenât released an official cause of death, and the case remains under investigation.
The three friends who accompanied the Mississippi college football player have retained attorneys. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing Wellsâ family.
Wellsâ family has pushed back on the claim that the teen voluntarily stayed behind on the island, and theyâve hired Crump to conduct a separate investigation into his death.
During Shepherdâs interview, he said, âWe did no wrong here, and we donât understand how weâre getting so much hate behind us. We all cared and loved Nolan, and nobody wanted to see Nolan die. Nobody wanted to see his life be taken so short
